Grebastica
Grebaštica
The settlement of Grebastica claims the most beautiful part of the riviera of Sibenik for itself. It lies on a deep bay between Sibenik and Primosten and is thereby an insider's tip especially for bathing holidaymakers. The coast of Grebastica is originally stony and rocky, but many stretches of beach have been converted into gravel beaches and are kept well tended and clean by the residents. The largest of such beaches is Banovci, right at the centre of Grebastica. It is well equipped with showers, sun loungers, shade-giving trees and cafes and bars. Water sports possibilities are given here as well. The bay of Galesnica is located on the western side of the settlement and is likewise well equipped and large. The beaches in the eastern part of Grebastica are for the most part smaller and thereby also more intimate platforms and jetties.
The accommodation in Grebaštica is mostly privately run holiday apartments. A campsite and hotels can, however, also be found. Compared with the prices of accommodation in Croatia, the accommodation in Grebaštica is reasonably priced.
The infrastructure in Grebastica is well developed, so that one needs no car for daily requirements and can manage everything comfortably on foot. Two well-stocked supermarkets, as well as numerous restaurants, pizzerias and bars, are to be found in the centre of Grebastica. Entertainment too is on offer at the harbour of Grebastica in the main season. The riva then becomes the stage for folklore dancers or local musicians and choirs, such as the Klapa Kanela.
Grebastica naturally also offers its visitors a number of sights. Relics from old Roman times are still well preserved and can be visited. At the monastery of St Lucy and in Konjusina, remains of walls from Roman times can be viewed. The chapel of St Peter is located in the cemetery of the Church of St Mary and dates from the 15th century. In the chapel one finds a work of art by the artist Antonio Busato. The statue of the saint, which was created by the master builder of the cathedral of Sveti Jakov in Sibenik and artist of the time, stands in the lunette of the chapel of St Peter. The cemetery of the Church of St Mary is also worth a visit. Here one still finds remnants of a Roman sarcophagus and some medieval gravestones. On the Ostrica peninsula stand the remains of a defensive wall from the 15th century ending in battlements. It is still in flawless condition and worth an excursion.
