Mastrinka is a small settlement on the northern side of the
island of Čiovo. It consists of three parts. The centre of Mastrinka is flanked to the west by Miševac, which consists mainly of holiday houses. East of the village core lies the quarter around the monastery of Sveti Križ. The monastery stands on the boundary between Mastrinka and
Arbanija and offers a large bathing platform with crystal-clear water. As for all the villages, it also applies to Mastrinka that it can only be driven to via the two bridges at
Trogir, which is about 2-3 kilometres away.
The entire coast of Mastrinka can be well used for bathing and relaxing. Two beautiful, well-kept beaches deserve particular mention. One beach is right at the entrance to the village, in the
Miševac district, and the second at the
Sveti Križ monastery. Both are typically Dalmatian gravel beaches. The other beaches in the village are of natural stone or concrete.
There is one hotel in Mastrinka which offers a swimming pool and tennis courts; the great majority of holiday accommodation, however, consists of family-run holiday flats. A small supermarket is likewise located in the village core and is open seven days a week. Anyone who does not feel like cooking, though, can be spoilt in the settlement's only restaurant, the Villa Mare.
The special sight in Mastrinka is the former Dominican monastery of Sveti Križ (Holy Cross). The monastery was founded in the year 1432. Details from the Renaissance are still well preserved, though it was abandoned in the year 1852. The monastery's cemetery is still used by the local residents today. Visiting the monastery is possible by arrangement. Another historic monument, Crkva Sv. Jere, is located in the Miševac part of the village.
A few important facts about Mastrinka remain to be mentioned. Mastrinka is a small, likeable village. Thanks to its proximity to the town of
Trogir it is well suited to holidaymakers who want to stay close to a town full of sights without having to do without a clean swimming experience.
For that very reason, however, Mastrinka is also more frequented than the villages of the island of Čiovo that lie further out. There is no pavement, but there are beautiful beaches.
