The quiet centre of the island, on which there is really always something going on, is Žedno. No bathers stray into the interior of the island where this small, old village lies. At one of the highest points of the island, with a breathtaking view and surrounded by macchia, pines and cypresses, only loners find like-minded company here… The clergy in the Middle Ages already noticed this too and built the church of Sveti Mauro here, which is still well maintained and sometimes visited. You do have to drive to the nearest bathing bays, but in return every beach on the island is about equally far away. And anyone who is not exactly a fan of sun, beach and sea anyway will surely be happier on the long walks or brisk cycle tours around Žedno than at the busy bays.
