Within sight of the settlement of Zavala on the south coast of
Hvar lies the island of Šćedro, a protected nature park. That the landscape of Zavala is not under special protection as well can only be because the first settlers arrived here earlier than the conservationists. And so the coastal strip, adorned with bays and mountain slopes, is harmoniously built up with several small quarters and connected by a footpath along the coast. In the evening people meet here as on the luxurious promenades elsewhere and decide together in which of the cosy taverns the local wine is to be enjoyed.
