On the one hand the sun shines in the Velebit mountains for 1,840 hours a year; on the other hand, much heavier and more frequent precipitation is to be recorded here than in the coastal regions. At altitude there are occasional banks of fog even in summer, and the temperatures are mostly lower than those of the nearby cities. It is therefore advisable to take a pullover or a rain jacket along on the hike even in sunshine and apparently radiant weather. With a little luck you can convert it into a picnic blanket instead!
