Rogoznica

Rogoznica
Rogoznica
Half on the mainland, half on an island, Rogoznica's position is symptomatic of this town's nature: not only does the town stand between traditional fishing and newfangled tourism, its history is also so supplemented by mythology that it can be hard to draw a clear line between the two. The fishermen here tell both versions with the same conviction - partly to entertain the few tourists who know this insider's tip, partly because you can never be sure that there is not actually truth in the legends as well…
And since everyone here believes and spreads their own version of events, it would not be unusual to get to hear nearly 800 versions of the "actual events".

Getting there and location: Rogoznica

Rogoznica's peninsula is connected with the mainland by a causeway. You will find the access road easily if you drive southwards from Šibenik and Primošten, or northwards from Trogir. There is, however, only a single spur road leading to the village; so drive attentively and take a look at the map before setting off. When looking for your accommodation it helps to have found out before setting out which of the two halves of the town the house stands in, so that you do not end up searching the island while your welcome lemonade goes warm opposite on the mainland…

Boating

For beginners in sailing in particular, Rogoznica is the ideal harbour. The island lies in the basin of a bay in such a way that it is largely protected from the west against sudden gusts, heavy swell and noticeable tides. Experienced sailors in the region therefore also prefer to head for this bay in sudden storms, which is why an artificial island with berths was built just offshore. Snorkelling and diving holidaymakers are often seen in the bay as well, since the shallow water makes it possible to drop anchor briefly anywhere. Since the sea level is thus calm and the wind steady - and the sun shines most of the time anyway! - the Marina Frapa in Rogoznica is well frequented throughout. Its 400 anchorages are not exactly cheap, so that more yacht owners than fishermen meet here - and even more visitors who just want to "have a look".

Marina Frapa

The Marina Frapa, well known and popular among sailors, lies in a sheltered bay, where it provides 300 berths and 10 boat jetties as well as 150 storage places on land. Despite its size, environmental friendliness is a particular concern for the marina's operators: the unique nature is to be damaged as little as possible by boat tourism, and so, alongside all desirable services, sailing courses for beginners and adults are also offered, so that everyone learns to navigate as safely as possible among the many small islands off Rogoznica. It is thus easy to understand what convinced the jury of the Trade Leaders' Club in 2006, when the Marina Frapa, after six years holding the title of "best marina in the Adriatic", was now also honoured as "best marina in the world".
