Island and place

Island of Ciovo

The "front garden of Trogir" is an island of 15 by 3.5 kilometres, and a good many of its houses are lived in only at weekends by well-to-do Croatians, or during the holiday season by international guests. The atmosphere is accordingly village-like, even in the parts that look like town. Those who live here all year round love the regularity with which quiet days give way to busier ones, with which the season of fishing is followed by the weeks of looking after visitors. And so Čiovo manages to receive its guests not as a disturbance but as an enrichment of the yearly cycle.

The island of Čiovo is connected to the mainland at Trogir by a bridge and is therefore quick and easy to reach. It is also ideally placed for excursions around the Split and Trogir region.

Okrug Gornji on Ciovo

The three kilometres of bathing beach almost exceed the size of the little town of Okrug Gornji, so it is hardly surprising that life here plays out largely on and beside the sea: paragliding and jet-skiing are everyday hobbies here as football is elsewhere, and there can hardly be an inhabitant who could not rightly be called a diving professional. Most are happy to pass on their knowledge in courses for a reasonable fee. And anyone who shrinks from direct contact with the very calm sea here can get acquainted with the wet element at leisure on a boat trip.
